Notes From The Studio : a dancers lessons on life : REJECTION

rejection – part of a dancers’ life

Rejection

I didn’t think the studio could hold my sadness. Tired oak floors, a second step that creaked as you made your way to the studio, splintered wood-paneled walls – everything about the place was old. And it was too old to hold my disappointment, too small to hold this colossal failure. I didn’t get the part after all.

We started the season bright and chipper, like students going back to school. Everything felt new, like September. Ready to dig into new choreography for our company’s upcoming season of performances, we looked around the room at the people who would become our family.

New company’s are like that. We’d all come from different places to take part in the historic revival of a famed ballet company in Washington D.C. We would be each other’s family. At least until contracts ran out.

Because we were family the rejection hurt all the more…because not only did my family reject me – my family deceived me.

I’m hanging out with friends on the Story Sessions blog today. Read the rest here….

It’s all about how we harness the rejection…offering it to God for redemption.

Lisha, I don’t even quite know what to say that doesn’t sound like some sort of cliche, like “wow.” I love how you grew from this. I feel the story as I read it. Thanks.
